Mars Had Planet-wide Aurora This Past Month

A massive colonel mass ejection is what caused the northern lights be visible in the United States. This same event occurred on Mars this past month. According to mnn.com, β€œNASA’s Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution orbiter… [recorded] a planet-wide aurora 25 times brighter than anything previously observed.” Don Hassler, RAD principal investigator, told the press, β€œIt’s the biggest we’ve seen on the surface so far. It will improve our understanding of how such solar events affect the Martian environment.”
