According to The World Wildlife Fund, unseasonably extensive amounts of sea ice in East Antarctica are to blame for a massive breeding failure that ravaged a penguin colony in Antarctica. Terre AdΓ©lie is home to more than 18,000 pairs of AdΓ©lie penguins, but this year almost all the seabirds' babies starved to death, with adult penguins forced to travel further than normal to forage for food. Only two chicks survived the catastrophe.
