'90s Video Games Inspiration For New "Jumanji"

According to ScreenRant and star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, the new "Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle" movie found much of its inspiration in 1990s video games. Anyone who has watched the film’s first two trailers will no doubt be aware that whereas 1995's "Jumanji" - directed by Joe Johnston and starring Robin Williams - brought the world of a magical board game to reality, the reboot features a dusty old video game console. And while the update hopes to honor Robin Williams, and connect to the spirit of the original, it adds yet another layer of nostalgia to this much-beloved movie mythos. Speaking of his love for video games, Johnson told ScreenRant, "When I was 16 I would have loved to become whoever my favorite characters were. Especially video games. So there’s this really cool dynamic that I hope we pull off. As I’m in these fight scenes, because I’m like, a turbo geek with video games… I’m actually calling out the moves before I’m doing it... If we do it right, it should be very funny.”
