Spanish fruit company, Isla Bonita, recently announced plans to issue diet avocados that contain less fat and fewer calories than traditional varieties. The new fruit, called Avocado Light, has 30 percent less fat than standard avocados. The new avocados also ripen faster and maintain their ripeness longer than other brands. The company says the Avocado Light variety will have a mild flavor. While many might be excited to hear about this, the fat in avocados is actually good. It’s of the monounsaturated kind, meaning it can help lower bad cholesterol and keep you feeling full for longer. the new variety will be available only in Madrid, but Slimacada, an avocado brand with less fat and fewer calories, has been available in the U.S. for years.
