Matriarch of Mission Funeral Homes, a pioneer for East Austin and mortuary business, dies at 87

Lois Pena Villaseñor, a longtime fixture on the local Hispanic business scene, died July 28 from complications from Covid-19, her family said. She was 87. Villaseñor started Mission Funeral Homes with her husband, Charles Villaseñor, in 1959 in East Austin. Together, they were mainstays in business, politics and community on the east side for decades and Lois Pena Villaseñor was one of Texas' first female funeral home directors.
