This spectacular birds eye footage shows 18,000 Christmas trees on a country estate ready to be purchased on the "busiest weekend of the festive season".The brilliant video was shot using a drone at Methley Estate near Leeds, West Yorks. Another series of clips show Christmas trees being grown on Tregothnan Estate in Cornwall and Newrough Christmas Trees near Little Salkeld, Cumbria. Three kinds of tree can be spotted by eagle-eyed viewers, including the Norway Spruce, which is the species of choice for most Britons at this time of year. Its favoured by many for its traditional cone shape, shiny needles and fragrant smell. Tree aficionados will also be able to spot Nordmann Fir, which is known as a non-drop tree because it doesn't readily shed its needles. The rarest and most exotic trees on the Mathley Estate are Fraser Firs, which have a wonderful silver tint on the bottom. Its branches unusually point upwards and, much like the Nordmann Fir, they also have good needle retention. The tallest trees on the farm have been growing for between eight and eleven years, which is how long it takes for them to reach six or seven foot. Most saplings establish after two years then grow one foot every 12 months thereafter, estate farmer Ryan Firth said. "It's absolutely manic here at this time of year - this is the busiest weekend of the season for us" he said. "A lot of the work we do here throughout the year is building up to now, so there's a lot going on. "We're spending lots of time moving trees into places where the public can see them. "But we also give people the option to pick their own tree, so they can come on to the farm and select one they like the look of. "It's hard work but good fun as well, especially when people are in the Christmas spirit."Methley Estate, situated on the confluence of the River Aire and River Calder, is part of Mexborough Estate and has been owned by the Savile family since the 15th century. The farm manager there planted the first Christmas tree on the site in 1996. Nowadays around 2,500 are sold from the estate each year.
