U.S., Taliban talks end after rival Afghans agree on 'roadmap for peace'

The U.S. special envoy for peace in Afghanistan wound up on Tuesday the seventh round of talks he has held with the Taliban in Qatar, after signs of progress in efforts to end the longest war the United States has ever fought.

U.S. Envoy: Peace Talks With Taliban 'Most Productive'
Reuters reports U.S. and Taliban officials will reconvene on Tuesday to continue peace talks. U.S envoy Zalmay Khalilzad has been holding peace talks with the Taliban to end the 18-year war in Afghanistan since last year. Khalilzad tweeted the latest round of discussions with the hardline Islamists group were the β€œmost productive session” to date. He said progress had been made on counter-terrorism assurances, troop withdrawal, participation in intra-Afghan dialogue, and a permanent ceasefire.
