Controversial Photo-Hiding App Pulled From Apple Store

Wochit - April 17, 2018

A popular app used by teenagers to hide photos is causing controversy. Apple has removed The Calculator% app from its App Store. Posing as a fully functioning calculator, the app allows users to hide secret photos. The app's icon looks like an innocuous calculator. But a secret code opens a vault of images and video concealed to anyone without access. Popular with teenagers, it has been criticized by child welfare experts. The app gained attention when a US district attorney's warning to parents went viral on Facebook. Recently, a British police unit confirmed the app formed part of an undisclosed investigation. A cached version of the developer's store on Apple shows it had been available as recently as a month ago. A link to the app on the developer's website is dead. While the app is unavailable on Android, a number of imitations can be downloaded..
