Saudi Arabia has no immediate plans to allow Boeing 737 MAX aircraft to operate in the kingdom, its transport minister said Monday.

Boeing's top-selling MAX has been grounded globally since last month after two fatal crashes involving the same model in five months (SOUNDBITE) (English) SAUDI TRANSPORT MINISTER, NABEEL AL-AMUDI, SAYING: "There were no 737 MAX that were flying in the kingdom at the time and there are no plans for them to be there in the near future." It comes as state airline flyadeal potentially reconsiders an order for the jets.

The budget carrier says it's waiting until investigations into the two crashes are completed before deciding if it proceeds with an order for 30 MAX jets.

That order worth 5.9 billion dollars to Boeing.

The stakes are high for the planemaker as it tries to hold on to nearly 5,000 MAX 737 orders as well as airlines and victims' families looking for answers - and potentially compensation.

Ethiopia may publish a prelimianry report into the causes of last month's Ethiopian Airlines crash later this week, that's according to a source familiar with the transport ministry.

The report will be closely examined for clues to any similarities between that crash and the Lion Air one in October, also involving a 737 MAX.
