Spring Snowstorm Batters Central US States

A blizzard swept across parts of the central US, battering communities with freezing rain and dropping about 24 inches of snow in some regions, the National Weather Service said in a statement on April 10.“Blizzard conditions with snowfall amounts of 20-24” are expected from western into west-central Minnesota starting tonight," the NWS said in a tweet.

“Travel will likely become impossible across these areas,” they said.This video shows the road conditions in Ortonville, Minnesota, on April 10.Flights were delayed and cancelled at Minneapolis International Airport while roads were closed due to dangerous driving conditions.The severe weather was expected to continue into Friday,"the NWS said.“A major Spring storm will continue heavy snow and blizzard conditions from the Dakotas to Minnesota Thursday into Friday.

Further south, destructive winds, blowing dust, and critical fire weather continues for the Southern Plains.

Severe thunderstorms will threaten eastern Illinois and western Indiana Thursday.

Power outages and dangerous travel is likely due to this widespread hazardous weather,” the NWS said in a weather warning on its website.
