Cops Using Google's Location History To Track Suspects Raises Legal Questions

Google has a massive mobile device location tracking database, which employees call Sensorvault.

And according to Gizmodo, law enforcement queries to it have โ€œrisen sharply in the past six months.

Sensorvault can be used to narrow down which devices were in a specified geographic location at a certain period of time.

Itโ€™s unclear how often police ask Google to produce results from the database.

The technique can be used to generate leads.
