Man Apprehended After Walking Into New York Cathedral With Gas Cans & Lighters

According to a report by Reuters, on Wednesday, a 37 year-old man was arrested after walking into St.

Patrick's Cathedral in New York City with two gasoline cans, lighter fluid, and lighters.

The incident happened just two days after a massive blaze seriously damaged France's historic Notre Dame cathedral.

The New York City police department reportedly said that the man entered the Roman Catholic cathedral in midtown Manhattan just before 8pm and was confronted by a security guard.

As the man turned to leave, gasoline reportedly spilled onto the floor and the guard quickly alerted police officers stationed outside.

John Miller, deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism for the NYPD, said, "An individual walking into an iconic location like St.

Patrick’s Cathedral carrying over four gallons of gasoline, two bottles of lighter fluid and lighters, is something we would have grave concern over."
