Amid a rise of anti-abortion measures in state legislatures across the U.S., Alabama is taking it a step further.

On Thursday, it will debate a bill that would ban abortions at every stage of pregnancy, from conception on - with some exceptions, including serious threats to the mother's life.

It would also criminalize the procedure for doctors, who could be charged with a felony and face up to 99 years in prison if they perform an abortion.

The measure could be put to a vote Thursday, and it comes after four states this year approved so called heartbeat bills, which essentially outlaw abortions after 6 weeks of pregnancy.

The latest was Georgia, this week.

We will always fight for life." Abortion opponents have been emboldened by conservative additions to the U.S. Supreme court and say the bills are intended to draw legal challenges to Roe V.

Wade.
