U.S. seizes North Korean ship as tensions mount

In an unprecedented move against North Korea …the United States on Thursday said it has seized one of that nation's largest cargo ships for transporting coal in violation of international sanctions... ...the move adding to tensions stirred by two North Korea weapons tests in the past weeks... The Justice Department said the confiscated vessel - known as the "Wise Honest" - had originally been detained by Indonesia carrying 25,000 tons of North Korean coal last year...and had also been used to deliver heavy machinery to North Korea...the ship now headed for US waters… …the DOJ saying in a statement quote: "This sanctions-busting ship is now out of service." The aggressive step by the U.S. comes after North Korea, following an earlier test, fired two short-range missiles on Thursday...an apparent protest by North Korea leader Kim Jong Un after U.S. President Donald Trump rejected his calls for sanctions relief at a summit in February… On Thursday, Trump said a deal with North Korea is still in the cards..

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP SAYING: "I know they want to negotiate, they're talking about negotiating.

But I don't think they're ready to negotiate." The U.S. is demanding Pyongyang dismantle its entire nuclear program.
