Russia and the United States confirmed their commitment to working on the improvement of strained ties on Tuesday (May 14), as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

U.S. President Donald Trump is committed to improving relations with Russia, Pompeo told Lavrov during a visit to the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi.

He added that the two countries may not agree on everything, but there was room for cooperation, particularly on counter-terrorism and nuclear non-proliferation.

Sergei Lavrov also told the Secretary of State that it was time for Russia and the United States to start a new constructive way of working together.

After his talks with Lavrov, Pompeo is also expected to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin.
