Paradise Airport starts repairs after being rented by PG&E

The paradise airport is still closed to the public..

Action news now reporter amy lanski spoke to the owners today... they said they're trying to make sure it's safe in a timely manner..

"the owners of the paradise airport are hopeful to get the airport back open to the public."

During the camp fire pg&e rented the airport from james and dori franklin so it could use it as staging area.

The contract called for pg&e to use four acres but the franklins said the company ended up need more space and used the entire area..

The franklin's say pg&e knew its equipment could damage the airport... but the contract called for pg&e to pay for the damages and repairs.

The franklins say now that pg&e has filed for bankruptcy getting money from the company has been slow going.

Pg&e says - bankruptcy ru les limit what they can pay and there is a claims process the franklkins can follow.

While they wait for payment from pg&e the franklins started making repairs on their own.

"we have fixed it ourselves, we kind of have been moving forward we needed to get the airport up and running for the community of paradise and at this point we have to turn down a lot of contractors and other people who want to come up here and help rebuild paradise due to the airport being unsafe and the runway conditions being unsafe for flight."

James says despite it being slow... pg&e got the ball rolling again this week.... and gave them a rent check this week.
