Getting some ink over the weekend..

You might want to listen up.

The f-d-a has issued a recall for certain brands of tattoo inks.

Koam's zach dodge checked to see if shops in joplin were impacted..

And what they are doing to make sure they use safe products on their customers.

Christia lewis is going under the gun for the first time.

Lewis:"i'm thinking it's gonna be great."

She's getting ink at brickhaus tattoo for four very special people in her life.

Lewis:"a quote for my grandkids and then some bufferflies, and each butterfly's gonna represent each grandchild."

It's a piece she's wanted for a few years..

And is finally ready..

Even with a recent recall on some inks by the fda.

Lewis:"it didn't really bother me too much cause he know's what he's doing."

The f-d-a has recalled six types of ink from three different brands because of bacteria that could cause infections or other complications.

The health department says none of the shops in joplin use the recalled ink.

But -- it's still a good idea to make sure you're going to a reputable shop.

Talken:"they should have a current state license on the wall.

That license will have their name on it, it'll have a date on it, and also picture on it."

And to get that license, shops have to pass state inspections.

Jennings:"they go through and make sure all your equipment is clean and up to date, and all your bottles, cause every bottle comes with expiration dates, so they always go through and make sure our expiration dates are up to date.

Like i say, we like to keep it on the up and up."

Brian french with brickhaus says they go above and beyond to keep their ink clean.

French:"i wash my hands, i glove up, i grab the ink, and then we pour them into ink caps and then we put them beck in the cabinet, and then take off your gloves, put on a fresh set of gloves, and continue to tattoo the customer."

Zach:"french recommends always watching your artist set up, and to not be afraid to ask questions."

French:"it's your tattoo..

There's no reason you shouldn't be asking questions."

All things that make lewis not nervous..

But excited..

About her first tattoo.

Lewis:"can't wait."
