Democratic Primary

The polls opening for election day..

The most closely- watched race tomorrow will decide who democrats will nominate to try to take back the governor's mansion..

Abc 36's ryan schmelz spoke with our political analyst about the three front runners' campaigns.

The primary has gotten ugly at times..

But our political analyst says that could be an advantage to the party in the general election... but the question is who will voters nominate..

The kitchen sink, it's what andy beshear's throwing at use because we've made this a race.

You've seen them take jabs at each other in tv ads..

These ads against andy beshear are shameful and false.

But as the race between attorney general andy beshear, former state auditor adam edelen, and house minority floor leader rocky adkins goes down to the wire..

Abc 36 political analyst stephen voss says don't bet any money on this race..

Polling data cannot be trusted.

Any candidate could get a surprising surge, and get numbers way greater than the polls anticipated.

All three men will aim to unseat governor matt bevin..

A governor attorney general beshear's had a very public feud with..

Suing his administration 8 times..

Which voss believes could give him an edge..

The lawsuits against bevin have kept beshear's name in the news, it's helped him build up the name recognition for himselt that he needed to run this democratic primary, name recognition will pay off for him in all the regions of the state.

His top aid is in jail for taking bribes from lobbiest adam edelen has made several attacks on beshear..

And is riding some momentum after a courier journal endoresement..

Voss says with a progressive campaign vision..

It could hurt his electability in a general election, but a low projected voter turnout could help.

If there's any election where a progressive adam edelen campaign can beat a republican, it will be an election where most of the more lukewarm voters stay home.

Rocky atkins on the other hand has a more moderate approach.

According to voss, that'll make getting out of the primary a struggle, but he believes atkins stance on issues like abortion could benenfit him i n rural areas across the state in a general election.

Offer them a democrat, who on the social and cultural issues is not as liberal as the national democratic party, and they can start considering a democrat.

#### former sierra club leader geoff young is also on the democratic ballot..
