Demonstrators Pack Hong Kong's Edinburgh Place Ahead of G20

Pro-democracy and anti-extradition bill protesters staged a large rally in Hong Kong on June 26 with an explicit message for world leaders ahead of the G20 summit in Japan.

Earlier in the day, demonstrators went from consulate to consulate petitioning G20 leaders to raise at the summit the issue of the proposed extradition bill which, if approved, would allow the extradition of people to China and any jurisdiction with which Hong Kong has no existing formal agreement.

Demonstrators wore t-shirts and carried placards with slogans including โ€œliberate Hong Kongโ€ and โ€œdefend sovereignty in Hong Kong.โ€ Petitions were delivered to the German, Canadian, Japanese, British, South Korean and Argentine consulates, as well as others in different parts of Hong Kong.

Demonstrators said that the Indian and Indonesian consulates refused to accept petitions.
