Stalled trade negotiations between the U.S. and China could be revived on Saturday (June 29).

The White House says a meeting is set between Trump and Xi - on the sidelines of the G20.

It's likely to be the highlight of the summit in Japan.

And the confirmation of a meeting comes after President Trump on Wednesday doubled down on his threat - to slap tariffs on virtually all that's left of Chinese imports to the U.S (SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP (SPEAKING ON THE PHONE FROM WASHINGTON ) TO FOX BUSINESS NETWORK ANCHOR MARIA BARTIROMO (IN NEW YORK), SAYING: "Now you have another $325 billion that I haven't taxed yet.

It's ripe for taxing, for putting tariffs on.

This never happened to China.

Now what is happening is people are moving out of China.

Companies are moving out of China.

By the way, some are coming back to the United States because they don't want to pay the tariff." Relations between the world's two biggest economies have spiraled after talks collapsed in May.

The U.S. wants China to address what it says are unfair trade practices including forced technology transfer and intellectual property theft.

But despite President Trump's threats for an extra round of tariffs - a report on Thursday (June 27) said the two sides have already reached a tentative truce.

The South China Morning Post said its sources claim the next round of tariffs would be halted under the agreement.

A U.S. official also told Reuters the two sides might not impose new tariffs as a sign of goodwill, and to add momentum to the negotiations.

Trump departed for the G20 on Wednesday (June 26), and is set to hold a total of nine bilateral meetings during his time in Japan.

Including with Russian president Vladimir Putin on Friday (June 28).
