New And Improved Device Launched To Clean Up Massive Ocean Garbage Patch

Young entrepreneur Boyan Slat dreams of ridding the world's oceans of harmful amounts of plastic.

His organization, The Ocean Cleanup, has developed a tool to remove plastic from the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a trash-filled vortex that's more than twice the size of Texas.

It's said to contain more than 1.8 trillion pieces of floating plastic, or 250 pieces of debris for every person on Earth.

After first being deployed in 2018, the device began spilling plastic into the Pacific Ocean and had to return to the port for repairs.

Now, Business Insider reports Slat's new and improved device is revisiting the Garbage Patch, where researchers are testing a few possible solutions.
