Newt Gingrich Discusses Social Media Regulation

How should we be approaching social media regulation?

Newt Gingrich, former Speaker of the House, talked about what he's keeping an eye on when it comes to social media regulation in the age of the Tweeter in Chief.

Here's what he's thinking.

"I think it's very tricky.

We have a very deep commitment to the idea that Congress shall make no law abridging freedom of speech.

And I think that what you have to worry about is whether or not you need to apply that to places like Facebook or Twitter or what have you.

I mean, my concern is not getting the government in there trying to censor things.

My concern is making sure that billionaires don't use the leverage of the companies they own to censor things on their own.

I think that'll be equally bad.

And I think we have to think carefully about how we deal with that.

I would be very opposed to the government itself becoming the ultimate censor--that's everything that's founding fathers opposed," explained Gingrich.
