Trump warns China not to wait for 2020 for deal

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned China against waiting out his first term to finalize any trade deal, saying if he wins re-election in the November 2020 U.S. presidential contest, the outcome could be no agreement or a worse one.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday warned China not to delay a trade deal until after the 2020 presidential election, saying that waiting out his administration would come at a cost.

His remarks came as U.S. trade representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin arrived in Shanghai Tuesday for two days of trade talks.

In an early morning tweet the president slammed the perceived wait-and-see strategy, saying quote "The problem with them waiting, however, is that if & when I win, the deal that they get will be much tougher than what we are negotiating now...or no deal at all." One 2020 Democrat weighing in on trade this week is Elizabeth Warren.

(FLASH) We can't use trade as a way to drive down standards across the world.

We need to use the leverage of American markets to drive up standards around the world." The Massachusetts Senator released a trade plan on Monday and railed against Trump's trade policies, saying multi-national companies hold all the cards.

And it's the corporate CEOs and the bizillionaires.

The government's working great for them." A new poll out Tuesday morning shows Warren surging in Iowa - the first state to vote on a Democratic contender for the 2020 election.

The poll, which was first reported by political news website Axios, has Warren leading in the Iowa Caucus for the first time, ahead of former Vice President Joe Biden.
