Tsunami warning after strong quake near Indonesia

Earthquakes are nothing new in this part of the world.

And neither is the sense of fear and panic that sets in when they arrive.

Guests at this hotel in the Indonesian city of Tasikmalaya were running for their lives on Friday evening.

A magnitude 6.8 quake had struck off the islands of Sumatra and Java, triggering a tsunami warning.

The quake itself was already making waves in this swimming pool.

Authorities urged people in coastal areas to move to higher ground.

Tremors were felt strongly here in the capital Jakarta.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casulaties and the tsunami warning was lifted.

But a night outdoors beckoned for many people too scared to go back inside.

While attempting to contact loved ones, there was little else to do -- other than hope that much worse wasn't to come.
