Trump campaign seeks to mobilize women in 2020

President Donald Trump's re-election campaign hosted events in 2020 battleground states on Thursday to mobilize and train suburban women, an important voting bloc that defected from Republicans during last year's congressional contests.

Nathan Frandino has more.

A group of prominent women who support President Donald Trump was fanning out across the country this week, trying to rally support with a crucial voting group that Trump has struggled to win over: suburban women.

The Trump diehards include Penny Nance, CEO of Concerned Women for America, and former Marine Jessie Jane Duff.

They're working to convince other women to work for Trump in 2020 battleground states like Ohio and Virginia.

Here in Virginia, about 100 mostly white women packed into the Republican Party headquarters in Fairfax County outside Washington, where Duff sought to push Trump's record.

Over half of all the jobs that have been created during this election.

Don't let anybody tell you that, 'suburban women aren't supporting the president.'

Well what is this?" But he'll need many more.

According to the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, 39 percent of women approve of Trump's performance in office, compared to 56 percent who disapprove.

Analysts say those numbers may reflect Trump's checkered history with women, from paying hush money for alleged affairs to allegations of sexual harassment, to the video that surfaced during his 2016 campaign that showed him bragging about grabbing women anywhere he liked.

The campaign is also trying to bring back women who defected in last year's congressional elections amid Trump's crackdown on immigration and divisive rhetoric.

His campaign dismisses those concerns, saying 51 percent of donations last quarter came from women... Women like retiree Katherine, who attended the Fairfax meeting.

I think there are a lot more women who support Trump than the women or Democrats will have you believe." And building that support will be key for Trump's re-election chances.
