The devastation in the Amazon rainforest is being heard across the Atlantic... where leaders of the G7 nations are close to an agreement on how to help fight those fires.

French President Emmanuel Macron said Sunday they're finalizing a possible deal on "technical and financial help" but he did not go into details.

A record number of fires are ravaging the Amazon, killing wildlife and leaving destruction in the world's largest tropical rainforest.

Planes have flown in to drench the scorched earth with much-needed water... and authorities say 44,000 troops are now stationed in Brazil's northern Amazon region.

The deployment follows international protests and a global chorus of concern over the raging wildfires.

Many world leaders had criticized President Jair Bolsonaro's government for not doing enough.

So far, nearly 80,000 fires have been recorded in the country through Saturday.

Across the border in Bolivia, forest fires have affected some 3,800 square miles... which is a little larger than the size of Puerto Rico.

Thousands have been evacuated as the fires continue to burn.

President Evo Morales said Sunday he'd accept any international aid to fight the blazes.

His government had been slow to accept the aid, but pleas from local officials led Morales to change his mind.
