Long lines as Florida braces for Dorian

Hurricane Dorian gained strength as it crept closer to Florida's coast on Friday, raising the risk that parts of the U.S. state will be hit by strong winds, a storm surge and heavy rain for a prolonged period after it makes landfall early next week.

Costco's and Home Depot's packed, with lines stretching out the door.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) FLORIDIAN WAITING IN LINE SAYING: "I've never seen anything like this." ...as Floridians prepare for Hurricane Dorian - expected to slam into the state early next week as a category 4 - packing 130 mile per hour winds.

Governor DeSantis declared a state of emergency for all 67 Florida counties due to the storm's uncertain path.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) RON DESANTIS, FLORIDA GOVERNOR, SAYING: "We urge all Floridians to have 7 days of food.

This is potentially a multi-day event where it will churn slowly across the state." DeSantis also aknowledged the long lines at the pump.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) RON DESANTIS, FLORIDA GOVERNOR, SAYING: "Fuel is an issue.

There are stations that have run out.

We, in the emergency declaration, waived service and truck rates for fuel trucks so we can increase capacity for fuel being brought in." Meanwhile President Trump called off his planned trip to Poland to deal with the hurricane.

(SOUNDBITE) (English) U.S. PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING: "I have decided to send our Vice President Mike Pence to Poland this weekend." Forecasters predict Dorian's 12-mile-per-hour march across the map could slow to a crawl, dumping more rain.
