Speaking at the Labour Party's annual conference in Brighton on Tuesday (September 24), Corbyn said the current crisis in British politics would only be resolved by a general election.

But, he said, that election needs to take place after the threat of a no-deal exit from the European Union is "taken off the table".

Before Johnson suspended parliament, opposition lawmakers managed to force through legislation saying the prime minister must ask the EU for a new extension if no deal is in place by October 19.

Corbyn was giving his speech at the conference a day earlier than expected, after it was confirmed that parliament would sit again on Wednesday (September 25).
