District will soon benefit from an increase in property taxes.

N-b-c- montana's judith retana tells us how much more property owners can expect to pay.

17-23 37 - 44 51 - 105 1:13 - 1:18 the school buses are rolling in and so are property tax hikes.

After finalizing their budget, the bozeman school district now says local property owners can expect to pay an extra 100 dollars a year... on average a number that isn't welcome news to everyone.

"i do realize for some people, it's a lot of money out of your pocket and certainly any increase is tough' the hikes... according to district officials... help cover operational costs for a growing student population.

The district's business services director says they understand tax increases aren't easy for some families.

"there are certain things that happen that are beyond our control and unfortunately this year we're seeing a big impact from those types of things."

He's talking about mandates from the legislature.

The state cut funding for the district forcing tax payers to fill the gap.

"standup : out of the 100 dollar increase, 70 dollars will make up money lost from the state.

13 dollars are for increases voters approved in may.

The rest is other costs including accommodating special needs students."

"we had some curveballs thrown at us this year but overall i think we're in a pretty good spot.

" for bozeman resident diane wilson... the hikes are worth it.

"it's not really a terrible problem.

Its 50 dollars every six months " she wants to make sure her grand daughter gets the best education.

"we need teachers to teach and we need safe places for them to be to learn" even if it means, forking up a few extra dollars.

Next year, property taxes will go up again as a result of the new high school - also approved by voters.
