PG&E may cut power in California due to wildfire risk

PG&E warned it may cut off power across 30 California counties starting Wednesday in an effort to prevent wildfires amidst windy and dry weather.

PG&E may cut power in California due to wildfire risk

Californians across 30 counties could be without power starting Wednesday, if utility giant PG&E moves ahead with plans to shut off electricity... As severe winds and dry weather sweeps over the northern and central parts of the state, the same conditions that led to the deadly camp fire almost one year ago.

The Mayor of San Jose urged residents to prepare to be without power as long as 7 days.

(SOUNDBITE) (ENGLISH) SAN JOSE MAYOR SAM LICCARDO SAYING: "We certainly hope it won't be that long but we want everyone to be prepared." The shutoff could impact more than 600,000 customers in the state but the utility is taking no chances... As it faces billions of dollars in liabilities after an investigation determined its power lines caused the deadliest and most destructive wildfire on record in California, which killed 85 people.
