This incredible footage shows England's first-ever inland SURFING lake - which can deliver up to 1,000 perfect waves an hour.'The Wave' officially opens to the public tomorrow (Sat) after a nine-year wait and a £25m investment. The cutting-edge lake design, filled with 26 million litres of water, pumps out a wave peaking at more than 6ft every eight to ten seconds. But the 75 acres development also boasts a restaurant, surf shop, gardens and 25 glamping pods which visitors can use as accommodation.Sessions at The Wave, located near the hamlet of East Compton south of Bristol, will cost £40-45 for an adult and £30-35 for a child depending on the time of year and day of the week. The breathtaking project is the brainchild of Nick Hounsfield, who teamed up with engineering company Wavegarden to bring the idea to life.He said: "I wanted to create a place where anyone and everyone can surf on safe waves, all year round, and experience the many mental and physical health benefits it offers."The 180m surfing lake is at its heart, but The Wave is not just about surfing. ''It's about sharing incredible experiences with anyone who wants to enjoy them, in a naturally healthy space."Wetsuits and boards can be provided for those keen to catch a wave but lacking equipment.

Coaching is also available. The accessibility of surfing has historically been held back by geographical limitations: weather, swell conditions and tides. It's hoped that The Wave will combat these issues and offer year-round surfing for all abilities, with dedicated areas for beginner, intermediate and advanced visitors.Another site, The Wave London, is planned for Lee Valley Regional Park in 2023.Surfing will make its debut at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
