Prosecution: Stone Lied About WikiLeaks To Protect Buddy Trump

A 12-member jury heard opening statements in the Roger Stone trial in federal court on Wednesday.

According to Reuters, prosecution and defense lawyers painted dramatically different portraits of Stone.

The 67-year-old GOP political operative has been a friend and ally of President Donald Trump for four decades.

Prosecutors pulled back the curtain on Stone’s private dealings of Trump's 2016 campaign.

They portrayed Stone as a liar who misled Congress about his outreach efforts to WikiLeaks to protect Trump's reputation.

Defense lawyer Bruce Rogow countered that Stone never “willfully and intentionally” misled lawmakers.

Stone is a self-described “dirty trickster” and “agent provocateur." He's pleaded not guilty to charges of obstructing justice, witness tampering and lying to the House Intelligence Committee.
