Ricky Gervais Announced as Host for 2020 Golden Globes

Ricky Gervais Announced as Host for 2020 Golden Globes.

On January 5, 2020, Ricky Gervais will host the Golden Globes for a record fifth time.

The British comedian, who has repeatedly sworn over the years that he would never return, previously hosted the Golden Globes from 2010 to 2012, and then again in 2016.

In a statement, Gervais spoke about his decision to host the 2020 ceremony, saying they “made [him] an offer [he] can’t refuse.”.

“Once again, they've made me an offer I can’t refuse.

But this is the very last time I’m doing this, which could make for a fun evening.” - Ricky Gervais, via ‘The Hollywood Reporter’.

Gervais, who is known for his harsh jokes at the expense of A-list celebrities, has often been criticized for his inappropriate quips.

However, Chairman of NBC Entertainment Paul Telegdy says Gervais's quips provide a “palpable electricity” when hosting.

“There is always a palpable electricity in the room when Ricky takes the Globes stage … It is sure to make for an unexpected evening.

We can’t wait to see what he has up his sleeve.” Paul Telegdy, via ‘The Hollywood Reporter’
