Dr. Fiona Hill recalled becoming irritated that Gordon Sondland, the U.S. envoy to the EU, was involved in diplomatic efforts with other political appointees outside of official channels.

"He was being involved in a domestic political errand.

And we were being involved in national security foreign policy.

And those two things had just diverged," Hill said.

At a meeting for coffee, Hill related that she grew angry with Sondland as he told her about his access to senior White House and State Department officials.

"And I did say to him, Ambassador Sondland, 'Gordon, I think this is all going to blow up.'

And here we are," she said.
