Wham!'s "Last Christmas" celebrates its 35h anniversary on Friday (December 13).

The hit released in December 1984 was written and produced by British singer George Michael, who rose to fame in the 1980s as part of the duo Wham!.

It peaked at number two in the UK charts when it was released in 1984, beaten by Band Aid's 'Do They Know It's Christmas' which Michael also featured in, and returned to the number two spot again in 2017.

The tune has been covered by many artists with recent interpretations including U.S. singers Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift.

The song inspired the 2019 movie of the same name starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding about a young woman working as an elf in a Christmas shop.

The film peaked at #1 at the UK box office, beating The Joker, with a soundtrack featuring the track itself and other music by Wham!

And hits from George Michael's solo career.

Michael died at his home on Christmas Day 2016, aged 53.

A coroner said he died of natural causes.

The Grammy Award-winner, who had several drug-related run-ins with the law, had a new track released in 2019 titled "This Is How (We Want You to Get High)".

The song, which was recorded in his last studio sessions before his death, plays at the end of the "Last Christmas" film.

To celebrate 35 years of Wham!'s Christmas record, Sony Music is releasing a limited edition white vinyl single of the iconic Christmas tune.

It will be accompanied by a restored version of the 1984 music video, upgraded to 4k by the original director, Andy Morahan.
