Swift will receive the award at the 31st annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 16, 2020.

According to to GLAAD’s President and CEO, Sarah Kate Ellis, Swift prominently uses her platform to “promote LGBTQ acceptance.” .

GLAAD specifically highlighted Swift’s support of the Equality Act in June 2019.

At the time, Swift wrote a letter to Tennessee Senator Lamar Alexander, encouraging him to support the bill.
She also created a petition, which received over 500,000 signatures, in hopes of encouraging her fans to show support for the bill too.

Swift’s LGBTQ allyship is also apparent in her song “You Need to Calm Down,” as it is an anti-hate anthem that promotes LGBTQ equality and acceptance.
