3 Reasons Why Cow Milk Sales Are Declining

According to CNN.com, cow milk sales have been steadily declining over the past few years.

Both Borden and Dean Foods, two of the largest milk processors in the U.S. both recently filed for bankruptcy.

There are three factors affecting milk sales: 1.

High prices: Which CNN says are "determined by an archaic system — squeezing dairy farmers and processors with each swing." 2.

Retailers like Kroger, are beginning to process milk themselves.

3.

Dairy free milk alternatives, like soy, rice, coconut, almond, and oat milk.

CNN explains, "Retail sales of oat milk alone have shot up over 600% over a 12-month period." But don't count cow milk out completely.

Nielsen data shows that lactose-free and grass-fed milk sales are increasing.
