Irish polling starts early in the islands

Voters in the islands off Ireland's west coast are among the first to cast their ballots in the General Election.

Those living off the coast of Donegal, Mayo and Galway are going to the polls today, one day ahead of the rest of the country.

Almost 2,200 people are eligible to vote, with those on the Cork islands casting ballots on Saturday.

A special ferry has been laid on to deliver and return the boxes back to the mainland, ready for the count to begin on Sunday morning.

Interviews with Eddie Joe McGee and Charlie Sweeney, who both cast their votes.
