An emotional night tonight in jackson county -- as hundreds of people came together for a benefit concert in scottsboro.

The concert was put on to help the families affected by last month's deadly fire at the "jackson county park" dock.

Waay 31's will robinson-smith was at tonight's event at collins elementary school... he found that not only did they raise a lot of money, but they helped heal the community as well folks who came to the concert here tonight say this was a wonderful moment of community and healing from a tragedy that touched so many lives.

And the performers tell me as well that they were honored to be a part of such a special night.

Music...clapping and laughter filled the auditorium of collins elementary school friday night.

They were all gathered to support the families of the eight victims who died in january's boat dock fire.

Robbie maxwell, singer we came together to worship and to put everything together and all of the energy was going to him and to the people that need the help during this time.

Robbie maxwell has lived in scottsboro for more than 30 years and says tonight was an important step in the healing process, but there's a lot of work still to be done.

It's not something that just happened and we just go on about our way, this is something that's going to go on and we will remember it for many, many years to come.

Multiple singers and a comedian took the stage to help inspire people to help out the impacted families.

The final act was grammy- nominated gospel trio, the martins.

While the siblings don't have a direct connection to scottsboro, they say it was an honor to participate tonight.

Jonathan martin, the martins we really took it to heart for us to know that we could give hope where it seemed like there maybe wasn't any for many people in this community.

And it's just been a big honor to be a part of this.
