UK boy drowns in front of horrified parents at waterpark in Thailand

A three-year-old British boy drowned in front of his horrified parents after falling into a pool at a water park in Thailand.

Bobby Watson was with his old brother, Billy, 7, and his parents William and Sumitra at the Blue Tree Water Park in Phuket yesterday (February 23) when the accident happened.

But Sumitra told police that while she was watching the older boy play in the water, the toddler ran around the edge of the pool and slipped into the landing area of a flume.

The infant's father, William, had reportedly left the children with his wife while he went for a cigarette.

Lifeguards saw the struggling toddler and dragged him the from the water.

They performed CPR at the poolside before an ambulance arrived but he was later pronounced dead at hospital.

William, a diving instructor, was unavailable today and there was no answer at the diving centre where he works with his wife.

But police said the two parents were ''very upset'' and ''crying uncontrollably'' after the incident at the water park, which only opened last year.

Police Captain Yanpatr Malai from the Thalong district station said: ''The boy's mother and father were very upset yesterday, they could not believe their son was gone.'' Police said they received a call at around 4:30pm to say that a young boy was unconscious after falling into the pool at the water park.

They said that when paramedics arrived they found the parents ''crying uncontrollably'' at the edge of a pool, which was around 120cm deep.

The boy was unconscious when he was brought to the side of the pool.

Paramedics rushed the child to Thalang Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police Captain Yanpatr added: ''There were also many tourists gathered around the pool who were shocked by the incident.

"The staff said that the boy had been brought from the bottom of the pool in an unconscious state.

He was given treatment at the scene and taken to hospital but died later.'' The Blue Tree Water Park, which opened in mid-2019, said in a statement yesterday (February 23) that they are ''deeply distressed."
