Some Transgender People May Not Be Able To Vote In 2020 Election

According to The Huff Post, hundreds of thousands of transgender Americans may not be unable to vote in the presidential election this year.

A report by the Williams Institute at the UCLA School of Law shows that over 378,000 eligible U.S. voters, who are trans, don't have identification that reflects their gender identity.

35 of the 50 U.S. states require voters to show identification before voting.

Voter rights advocates say that these restrictions "disproportionately affect poor and minority voters." Richard Hasen, an election law expert at U.C.

Irvine says that blocking trans voters could favor Republicans, which are more conservative.

Mara Keisling, head of The National Center for Transgender Equality Action Fund, said "Transgender people should not be denied their opportunity to participate in our democracy because laws and regulations around identification documents haven’t kept up with reality.“
