'Do it more, do it a little bit more': Trump urges Fed to lower rates

U.S. President Donald Trump called for further rate cuts after the Federal Reserve earlier on Tuesday slashed rates by a half percentage point.

Trump claimed the rates are still "too high" and said "it puts us at a competitive disadvantage, especially when it comes to exporting our product to other countries."

"I don't like it at all," Trump said during his address at the National Association of Counties Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C..

"I'd like to see our Fed lead instead of being led," the president added.

The Fed slashed rates Tuesday (March 3) by a half percentage point in an emergency move designed to insulate the nation's economy from the impact of the coronavirus.

The president also Tweeted on Tuesday, "The Federal Reserve is cutting but must further ease and, most importantly, come into line with other countries/competitors.

We are not playing on a level field.

Not fair to USA.

It is finally time for the Federal Reserve to LEAD.

More easing and cutting!"
