Scholar Athlete of the Week: Murray Becher, Heritage Hills

The state finals for basketball were suppose to be this weekend..

And many were expecting heritage hills to make a run to indy.

The patriots were having an amazing season..

Winning 17 straight games..

En route to capturing their first sectional crown since 2003.

There were many contributors to the patriots success..

But one of them stood out as north spencer's all time leading scorer..

Murray becher is our final winter scholar athlete of the week.

On this very shot..

Murray becher became the all time points leader in heritage hills history..

Something the senior patriot never dreamed of..

I wasn't thinking about that, i just playing basketball and it was just one of those things that popped up and came, i've just played since my freshman year.

It was a good experience for me but, i think my overall goal is i want to make it far in the tournament.

He always likes to put his teammates first and give them just as much credit, but even though when he's scoring the basketball, a lot of times he'll be sure to make sure that the guy that made the pass or got the assist on it is just as important and he understands that.

Becher hits the books just as hard..

The indiana all star ranked 14th in his class with a weight 4.1 gpa.

Murray is always going above and beyond to ask questions, and so when murray isn't sure what to do next he is quick to always make sure he understands everything at the deepest level.

When murray is not afraid to ask questions then it allows other people to step up and ask questions when they don't understand as well and so that leadership he shows on the basketball court transfers into the classroom.

And when he's not busy on the court..

Or studying for tests..

The student council member can be found helping in his community..

The senior involved in 6 different clubs and activities..

I credit my parents a lot, they've instilled in my head that if you always work hard the best things will come.

Murray's work ethic will take him wherever he wants to go.

I'm confident whether he chooses to play basketball in college, another sport, or just focuses on his academics he will be successful in whatever he chooses.

Murray has goals in mind and he wants to go on.

He wants to play college basketball, he's got some offers that are out there and beyond that i think he knows that he's setting himself up for a very good career going forward.
