Professor Paul Cosford of Public Health England (PHE) has explained the delays in rolling out coronavirus testing across the UK as an issue of accuracy and quality, stating "a bad test is worse than no test at all".
He further explained that any tests, both UK manufactured or bought from other countries, had to be approved for accuracy by PHE before the ramping up of testing programmes could occur.
He also warned against antibody testing offered by private practices which were claiming to be PHE approved as rigorous evaluation of such tests was still to be carried out by the organisation.
