Over 701,000 Jobs Cut In March Due To Coronavirus

The U.S. Labor Department reported that 701,000 jobs were lost in March, as a result of coronavirus, shooting the unemployment rate up to 4.4%.

According to Reuters, that is the largest one-month increase in the jobless rate since 1975.

And the unemployment rate for March may not even be totally accurate, because Reuters says that the figures sited were as of early March.

With the U.S. economy shut down, widespread cuts disproportionately affected industries like hotels, restaurants, travel, education and even healthcare.

Women, the young and less educated workers are among the groups that experienced the most lays offs.

But the federal government stood out by gaining employees, due to 17,000 temporary 2020 census workers.
