Local Doctor talks Covid-19, not afraid to do her job

"It won't eliminate it from being in the community and we're all going to get a chance to be exposed over the next few years because that's how long a pandemic lasts."

Cases less than minnesota.

Corona stinger a local doctor on the frontlines... not afraid of her job.

She's taking a calm and rational approach to coronavirus.

It's hard not to feel a little anxious while all this is going on, but as doctor charity baker told me earlier today, widespread fear over the coronavirus outbreak is not going to do anyone a bit of good.

"the days are less busy and we're focusing on respiratory illnesses and identifying patients that have coronavirus and taking care of them."

Doctor charity baker is concerned patients with health problems other than covi?19 aren't getting the medical care they need.

Baker is reminded of the swine flu epidemic of 2009.

"i was working in an er at the time, pregnant and there were hundreds and hundreds of patients waiting to be seen.

Millions who had the disease and tens of thousands who died and there was no one buying extra toilet paper."

Adam sherwood says the swine flu induced far less panic.

"when the swine flu came around, it was something that you heard about, but nothing compared to what's going on right now.

Obvously you walk into the grocery store and it's like walking into an apocalyptic wasteland pretty much."

Doctor baker says despite social distancing coronavirus is going to be with us for a long time.

"it won't elminate it from being in the community and we're all going to get a chance to be exposed over the next few years because that's how long a pandemic lasts."

She doesn't want to minimize the threat, but intends to keep caring for her patients.

"we need to be careful with our germs and stay home when we're sick and wash our hands.

Those are all very doctor baker also told me treated a patient who ended up testing positive for coronavirus.

She did not get tested because she showed no symptoms and was wearing all the required protective gear.
