>> we just heard from a patient and her doctor, the arduous journey from death's door to full recovery and health alling thanks to organ donation, and joining us, christine for we are sharing hope.

And thank you for joining us and it's good to see you again.

>> thank you so much for having us, it's wonderful to be here.

>> we were just speaking with a doctor at musc and a patient who receive aid liver that saved her life.

She was suddenly very very sick and became a match, and this was her ticket, her new lease on life.

And maybe you can tell us more about the impact of organ donation that it has on folks like her.

>> absolutely, so the miracle of organ and tissue donation is amazing and we're sharing hope to be able to facilitate that here in south carolina.

We're south carolina's only organ procurement organization, opo and it's our responsibility to find those matches for those waiting right now.

There are about 1200 people in the state of south carolina who are waiting for life saving transplant and finding that perfect match is something that we take very seriously.

And it really does belong, the honor really does belong to our donor families and those heros that say yes to organ donation, that's really where that miracle can happen because with out them, people can't get their second chances at life.

So the donor families who concern the gift of life for their loved ones through organ and tissue donation.

>> when someone says yes, i want to be an organ donor should something happen to me, you have to get the okay from the family that they need to be fine with it as well.

>> right.

>> so how do you do that?

>> so april is national donate life month, so we appreciate the opportunity to continue sharing information, and you're so right.

It really is important to have that conversation.

The state of south carolina is a first person consent state.

So when you write that, those are the wishes that are followed.

But trill is the opportunity to have that conversation with your loved ones, because they're the ones that work with our family support councilors in the hospital to be able to continue that legacy and follow those wishes, so have a conversation with your family and let them know if you want to be an organ donor.

>> we just have few seconds left but you're a liaison, and why is it so important to bridge that gap?

>> it's important for our staff to be able to serve our community.

And we're the ones who facilitate from a clinical standpoint those organs that can be transplanted so we're able to work with our hospital partners and manage the patient after they pass away and make those organs available to those on the waiting list.

And we also support and educate our families in the hospital to ensure that they have a full understanding of what the gift of organ donation can do.

>> it truly is.

One donor can save eight lives, and christine, i want to thank you so much.

And wonderful work that you do, and if you want more information, we'll have all of that available on our social media platforms. thank you,
