?welcome back..well as you know, here on fox 55, saturdays are for the seniors..

Every weekend, we recognize local senior athletes whose seasons were cut short or canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic..tonight, our petar hood honors former multi-sport south adams star jenna myers..

Narr: as good as she was on the diamond in high school, jenna myers' best sport may very well have been soccer..?nat pop- "are you serious?!"?jenna myers: "in middle school, when i first started to play soccer, like, 'wow, you're a really good goalie.'

And i was just like, 'thanks!'

But then, when i got up to the high school team, and looking back at my stats, i'm like, 'wow i'm a lot better than what i thought i was at soccer.'"narr: yeah, first team all-conference?

Not too shabby.

But despite her obvious talent on the pitch, myers' first love has always been softball..myers: "softball is something that came pretty naturally to me at a young age, and it was something that i really worked towards."narr: and that work paid off in a big way last season.

As a junior, myers hit .427 while leading her team in doubles and stolen bases.

In doing so, she helped steer her starfires to 25 wins, including a dramatic extra innings victory over arch rival adams central in the sectional championship game..

?nat pop- celebrating?myers: "it was just a moment that i'll never forget, just the pure joy of everyone on our side, and knowing that we did it against a rival knowing that that's how my career ended, it's sad, but at the same time, definitely a good feeling."narr: yeah, you can't ask for a much better send-off than that.

But now as she reflects on her time with the starfires, myers says her proudest moments have nothing to do with winning titles..

Myers: "i'm very proud of the way that i could put a smile on a teammates' face after they made an error or struck out, and seeing them go out the next inning and finding a way to make a big play, that was something that i'm really proud of."narr: and it's also something that will make myers great in her future career.

She says she wants to be a first grade teacher, and although she has no plans to play sports in college, jenna also knows..

You can take the girl out of softball, but you can't take softball out of the girl..myers: "knowing that the sport is always going to be a part of me, and that i can come back and coach... it's always going to be something that's going to be part of my life."narr: in fort wayne, petar hood, fox 55 sports..
