Moving of American flag was not a protest, Cottage Grove business says

Each month on the 11th, the American Legion Post in Cottage Grove lines Main Street with American flags.

The 50s.

On the 11th of every month... american flags line main street in cottage grove.

But this past saturday... things got a little tense when one business removed a flag.

Kezi nine news reporter connor mccarthy is live in cottage grove and explains why.

Chynna-- the owner of the axe and fiddle here on main street says his employees had to remove a flag to move a picnic bench like the one i'm sitting at right now.

He says they did not do anything bad to the flag... they just set it off to the side on the side walk.

But the american legion... who puts up the flags... isn't buying it.

One member told us that the flag was quote desecrated by the axe and fiddle, and its not the first time this has happened.

But the owner says that's not true.

He says he has asked the legion to not place an american flag outsidd his business because of the current state of the country.

However, he says he would never desecrate the american flag.

We do want to support america because of course wee patriotic but we feel that it a sensitive time.

Personally i would rather have a black lives matter flag out here or a gay pride flag out here because we want to accept everybody caridio says what happened saturday was just blown out of proportion.

His business didn't move the flag out of protest... but simply to move picnic tables for his daughters wedding.

Chynna-- i did reach out to the american legion post here in cottage grove for more details on their side of the story, but i have not heard back.
