A technology entrepreneur who founded Nigeria's Gokada ride-hailing app was found decapitated and dismembered in a luxury New York apartment with a power saw plugged in nearby, New York media reported.

A grisly murder of a tech entrerpreneur is drawing international interest Wednesday.

Thirty-three-year-old Fahim Saleh, founder of Nigerian ride-hailing app Gokada, was found decapitated and dismembered in a luxury New York apartment - with a power saw plugged in nearby, according to local media.

Saleh had spoken to Reuters last year about Gokada and how he was hoping to capitalize on the popularity of motorbikes in Nigeria - or “okadas” as they’re known locally.

"There are so many okadas that they are here to stay at least for a while, so why not make the best of it, right?

Why not make sure they are riding safely, why not track them, why not give them proper permits and make the best of the situation instead of just ignoring what the reality is." Gokada had been a staple on the streets of Lagos from the time the startup launched there in 2018 until this past February when the government banned all commercial motorbikes in the city.

Saleh's sister discovered Fahim’s body Tuesday afternoon, with the saw still connected to its power source - leading detectives to suspect her arrival may have startled the perpetrator who would have fled through another exit, the New York Times reported.

Saleh's head and limbs were sorted into plastic bags, police told local reporters.

No motive has been stated for his brutal death.

Security camera video showed Saleh in the apartment building's elevator with a man in a dark suit, mask and gloves, media reports said.

Video showed the masked man following Saleh into the apartment, where a struggle began.

A Gokada spokesman did not respond to requests for comment.
